PROJECTS - Waste Management Reviews

Mercedes-Benz HighPerformanceEngines Ltd – Northamptonshire
The waste management system at Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines was improved by expanding the range of materials being recycled and communicating the system to staff. Materials such as waste metals, cardboard and polythene (like bubble wrap) we segregated and sold. This saved the company money twice – by reducing the amount of waste going to land fill and by generating income. The information leaflet educated staff in locations of all waste types, including hazardous waste, general waste and recycling.

Sparsholt College Hampshire (www.sparsholt.ac.uk)
Debbie was invited back to Sparsholt College to undertake a waste management review. Technology has played a large part in this project, with a “Facebook” style intranet site designed to encourage interaction of students and staff, as well as providing a paperless method for communicating what was happening. Another exciting feature was the introduction of incentive based reverse vending machines, where upon recycling cans and plastic bottles coupons are issued and can be redeemed at any of the college shops and restaurants as discount against purchases! More recently Debbie has extended the project to include Hazardous Waste, where control was centralised and information raising awareness to staff was generated both electronically and on paper.
