Debbie’s first project at Sparsholt College was to organise the relocation of more than 60 people in the main administration building at the campus near Winchester. The most complicated feature of this project was to arrange the moves in the most appropriate sequence, considering both the availability of the desk space and the individuals themselves.
Debbie has also selected and implemented a computerised maintenance management system for the colleges’ two campuses. This initially included selecting a range of systems to present to the Premises Manager. On selection the preferred system was set up and the Premises team were trained with bespoke training material. The use of electronic hand held devices was rolled out to reduce the amount of paper generated work orders.
More recently Debbie was invited back to Sparsholt College to undertake a waste management review. With sustainability at the heart of the implementation, the “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” approach ensured that waste was minimised before actually starting recycling. Technology has played a large part in this project, with a “Facebook” style intranet site designed to encourage interaction of students and staff, as well as providing a paperless method for communicating what was happening. Another exciting feature was the introduction of incentive based reverse vending machines, where upon recycling cans and plastic bottles coupons are issued and can be redeemed at any of the college shops and restaurants as discount against purchases! The next phase of the review will focus on hazardous waste.
